Over the past two years, plant-based food consumption has grown by 49% across the EU, reaching a total sales volume of €3.6 billion.
UAE to become top consumer market for cosmetics and personal care
2025-05-15
The market was valued at $35.9 billion in 2018 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 10% over the next four years.
According to Euromonitor International, the beauty and personal care market in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region will be worth $35.9 billion in 2018 and will continue to grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 10% over the next four years.
Consumers in the UAE spend $247 per capita on cosmetics and personal care, surpassing other Middle Eastern countries and ranking ninth globally. This figure is expected to rise to $294 by 2020.
Many experts say the growth of the UAE's cosmetics and skincare market is driven by the lifestyle it offers. Medical experts say proper skincare is not gender-specific and everyone should invest in a proper routine, especially in the UAE's harsh climate.
Dr. Iyad Hijjawi, senior consultant at Euromonitor International, noted that the "organic beauty" and "halal beauty" sectors are also growing alongside the men's skincare sector. Earlier, there was no distinction between halal beauty and organic skincare, but many international brands have now begun to understand consumer needs and have launched product lines catering to both segments.
International cosmetics manufacturers are looking to thrive in the Middle East and Africa market for “natural” and “organic” cosmetics, estimated to be worth between $2.25 billion and $2.5 billion in 2017.
According to research, the growing global consumer interest in clean, green, and sustainable beauty products has taken root in the MEA region, and the regional market for "natural" and "organic" cosmetics could grow by 12-15% annually over the next five years. This would push the sector's retail value to between $4 billion and $5 billion by 2022, driven by rising consumer awareness and demand for the products.
On the other hand, according to a report, the global halal cosmetics market is expected to reach $52.02 billion by 2025. Experts in the industry say that Muslim shoppers’ awareness of the ingredients used in cosmetics and personal care products will determine future growth trajectories.
