Over the past seven years, the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) has successfully established extensive business opportunities and a global network across the halal industry, and has become a focal point for traders, entrepreneurs and manufacturers worldwide to promote and launch their halal products and services. The 8th MIHAS (Malaysia International Halal Showcase) was held on 6 April 2011 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This annual event showcases halal food and beverages, food, traditional Chinese medicine, body-care products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, packaging, and banking and insurance products. MIHAS created huge business opportunities last year and remained ambitious in 2011.

MIHAS 2010 achieved astonishing results; 2011 looks forward to many high-quality exhibitors

Dato Dzulkifli Mahmud, Senior Trade Commissioner of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, said that last year MIHAS achieved total sales of US$400 million, with more than 32,000 traders from 81 countries attending. The top five buyers purchased palm oil products, processed food and beverages, confectionery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and skincare products. The top ten countries by purchase value were the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ukraine, Australia, Japan, Morocco, Singapore, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and South Africa. MIHAS 2011's goal was to attract 500 buyers from more than 50 countries, and the showcase looked forward to higher-quality exporters and participants. Malaysia's Halal Week also aims to develop and expand the global halal industry through business matching, trade shows, forums and research.

Dato Dzulkifli said that Malaysia's Halal certification has gained international recognition and acceptance, making it easier for Malaysian companies to establish business relationships with countries around the world.

More than 80% of the world's total Halal trade in Halal food is produced by non-Muslim countries in the West and East, which have become the largest exporters of Halal food. China made large purchases of Halal products at last year's showcase; may more Chinese entrepreneurs seize the opportunity and enter the Halal market.
