About the agency
Star-K is one of the world's five leading Kosher certification agencies and a senior member of the global Jewish certification community. It has provided Kosher supervision services for more than 50 years, originating from the Orthodox Jewish community organisation of Baltimore, Maryland, where it initially served the local community.
As demand for Kosher certification grew rapidly in the 1970s, Star-K expanded both its scope of service and its staff. Under the leadership of Rabbi Heinemann — a specialist in integrating complex food process technologies — Star-K's role in the international kashrut field grew steadily, and its client base extended from local businesses to food manufacturers and distributors worldwide.
Three principles
Reliability, Reputation and Respect. Star-K is supported by experienced technical staff, including rabbinic administrators of dietary law, food research specialists and on-site supervisors. Its Kashrus consumer hotline answers thousands of enquiries each year, and its distributed communications network provides up-to-date certification information to the public.

Food products, premium food, beverages, and products with longer ingredient chains or more complex processing — where Kosher status often depends on processing aids and ingredient origins and must be verified item by item.
