What is BPJPH?
BPJPH (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal, the Halal Product Assurance Agency) is the national Halal certification authority under Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs, and currently the sole officially recognized Halal certification authority in Indonesia. BPJPH was established in October 2017 and began certifying products on October 17, 2019, taking over from MUI (the Indonesian Ulema Council), Indonesia's sole Halal certification body since 1989. Today the system has three roles: BPJPH receives applications via SIHALAL and issues certificates; MUI issues the Halal fatwa; and LPH bodies (with LPH Utama the highest tier) perform the substantive review and on-site inspection.
