KLBD Kosher Certification Body

KLBD is the acronym for Kashrut (Kosher) Division of the London Beth Din. Headquartered in London with operations in more than 70 countries, KLBD is the largest Kosher certification body in Europe and one of the top five Kosher certification bodies in the world. The KLBD mark is recognized and respected by manufacturers and consumers worldwide. It operates under the auspices of the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of Great Britain and the Commonwealth, with offices in Europe, Israel, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, China, and South America.

The London Beth Din (LBD), established more than 300 years ago, is one of the world's leading Orthodox authorities handling Jewish legal matters, particularly the social and community life affairs of Jews in the UK. A team of rabbinical judges and rabbis leads the London Beth Din - they are the engine driving the work of the London Beth Din and all its sub-divisions.

KLBD is the largest single division of the London Beth Din (LBD). It has issued licenses to more than 100 catering hotels, bakeries, restaurants, food manufacturers, delicatessens, candy stores, and shops, supervises more than 3,000 catering events each year, and certifies more than 7,000 factories worldwide.

KLBD's Kosher certification of factories dates back at least a century. In 1902, Chief Rabbi Adler authorized Marmite in a letter; Marmite, a bulk product, is still certified to this day (although the bottled retail version is not approved). Likewise, fried cocoa beans were approved by the KLBD authority as early as 1910.

Historical ties with Australia, Malaysia, India, and other Commonwealth countries - especially the shortened distances and the globalized world market of the past decade - have made KLBD a major force in international Kosher certification.

In addition to a technically skilled team of production and business consultants, KLBD has world-class technical experts in chemistry and food technology. While other bodies concentrate on granting signatures or seals to finished products, KLBD's experts focus on the specialized technology of raw materials and special ingredients. Flavors, fragrances, emulsifiers, food chemistry, dairy derivatives, and vitamins - the most important raw materials used by most European producers - are all certified by KLBD.
