The 19th Malaysia International Food & Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB 2018) continues to provide a platform and venue for food and beverage industry participants from around the world. As international demand for Halal food grows, MIFB 2018 will set up a special Halal food venue for exhibits from across the country. This will become a Halal market platform, meeting the needs of Halal food manufacturers, traders and business leaders to source products and find partners to expand their businesses.

According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy report (DinarStandard 2016/17), in 2015 the global Muslim population spent US$1.2 trillion on food and beverages, accounting for 17% of spending in that sector. Considering population growth and rising incomes, by 2021 the world Muslim population's spending on food and beverages will reach US$1.9 trillion. This is calculated based on an expected average annual growth rate of 9%, which will account for 18.3% of total global spending in this sector.

Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin, CEO of the Halal Development Corporation (HDC), said Malaysia's Halal exports grew 7.1% in 2016, reaching RM42.18 billion. Exports to China totaled RM5.4 billion, making it the largest export market in 2016. Halal exports are expected to grow 5% to 6% this year.
