Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the World Halal Food Expo to be held annually.
Sheikh Mohammed also ordered the expo to be expanded, given that it is the first gathering of its kind in the region and worldwide and has been clearly accepted by manufacturers, distributors and international investors.
The order was given during Sheikh Mohammed's visit to the Islamic World Food Expo, that is, during the preparation of the 2014 Gulfood Expo.
Helal Saeed Al Merri, CEO of the Dubai World Trade Centre, introduced Sheikh Mohammed to various aspects of the expo. Al Merri said the expo represents an entry point for investors into the industry, whether as manufacturers or distributors. He noted that the first holding of the expo has become part of Dubai's plan to develop the Islamic economy sector in an organized manner, which is consistent with Sheikh Mohammed's vision of launching Dubai's Islamic economy, capital financing and Halal food industry.
