Dubai Municipality Establishes a Halal Food Program

The program will help evaluate laboratories' efficiency in testing Halal food and beverage products, and will support the issuance of certificates for Halal product conformity assessment bodies. The municipality's certification director said the program uses the highest standards and uses reference samples for all participating laboratory tests. The efficiency program sets out key requirements for laboratories and products to achieve international recognition. Omnia said about 60 laboratories are expected to participate. She noted that since the early 1990s the municipality has carried out efficiency programs in various fields, but considering how to specialize the Halal food efficiency program, the municipality established the necessary infrastructure and brought in technical experts to implement it. The program has now earned the acclaim of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).

The program supports the Dubai initiative and is the first step in establishing a Halal food testing base and becoming the capital of the Islamic economy. It also aligns with the country's approach and vision of establishing an internationally recognized Halal food approval system.
