Muslims vacationing in Hong Kong can now completely set aside any concerns they may have about Halal food.
It is now easier to find restaurants whose Halal certificates are issued by the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund registered in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The island's chief imam, Mufti Muhammad Arshad, said these restaurants will provide service throughout the city.
He added that Muslims will also easily find many places to perform prayers, such as the Jamia Mosque, Kowloon Mosque, Ammar Mosque and the Osman Ramju Sadick Islamic Centre.
Hong Kong's Muslim community has a history of more than a century and an estimated population of 220,000.
Speaking during a Hong Kong Muslim seminar on Asian tourism recently held by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), he said: "Muslim tourists have no reason to worry about fulfilling any obligations, because all of Hong Kong's facilities and attractions will cater to them."
Establishments will update trade members on demonstrating their friendliness and service to Muslims in the Hong Kong Tourism Board's latest tourism-development facilities program.
The ongoing work aims to share insights to assist trade members and to cater to the needs of Muslim customers in Hong Kong.
Attendees included Hong Kong trade partners such as Big Bus Tours, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Ocean Park Hong Kong, the COSMO Mong Kok hotel, and the Regal Airport Hotel.
The Tourism Board has also launched a Halal guide, with information such as visits to featured places and Halal restaurants around Hong Kong's mosques.
