Halal food enters the vegetarian market, and plant-based burgers emerge

2025-05-15

A UAE-based halal food giant has made its first foray into the vegan food market with the launch of a new plant-based burger made primarily from sunflower protein. The result is a healthy and delicious vegan burger that was developed after eight months of research, testing, and development.

The burger uses plant extracts and substitutes to satisfy vegetarians while still having the same appearance and taste as a beef burger. In addition, the plant-based patty of the burger is rich in fiber, which is significantly higher than beef and chicken burgers on the market.

This burger is a great vegan option for those looking for a healthier, high-protein alternative to meat. It uses protein from beans and peas grown on organic, non-GMO farms, along with extracts from onion, pepper, garlic, celery, carrot, and beetroot juice. Its rich, juicy texture, lack of preservatives, and low saturated fat make it a healthier option.

One of the biggest selling points of this plant-based burger is that it uses sunflower protein instead of soy protein. While soy is a well-known food allergen, sunflower protein is rich in protein and fiber, essential for gut health, and provides all essential amino acids. This protein comes purely from sunflower seeds, making it incredibly safe for those allergic to soy. It's also free of trans fat, MSG, and gluten.

Survey data shows that the plant-based meat market was estimated at US$18.6 billion in 2019, and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 6.7% by 2024. Of this, the Middle East accounted for US$176.5 million in 2019, and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 4%-5% over the next four years.

Furthermore, per capita meat consumption in the UAE has reached approximately 73 kg per year, while in Saudi Arabia it is approximately 49 kg, far exceeding the 18 kg recommended by the World Health Organization.

In the context of a rapidly growing market, people's pursuit of diversified protein intake and healthier diets will surely drive faster growth in the plant-based and vegan markets.
