COSMAX obtains Halal certification
2025-05-15
Congratulations to COSMAX on receiving Halal certification: On March 15, 2016, COSMAX, a renowned Korean cosmetics OEM company, officially received Halal certification for its factory in Jakarta, Indonesia. This marks the company's entry into the Muslim cosmetics market by producing cosmetics bearing the Halal certification mark, becoming the first Korean cosmetics company to receive this certification.
The halal certification of COSMAX's Indonesian factory is authorized by the Indonesian Ulama Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia or MUI), and this halal certification is recognized by approximately 40 countries worldwide.
Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country, boasts a population of nearly 220 million, with approximately 87% of its residents being Muslims. The Indonesian government mandates that food and cosmetics must be approved by the Indonesian Ministry of Health (MUI) and certified as "HALAL" before they can be sold.
Generally speaking, most regular cosmetics on the market use alcohol as a primary solvent and even animal products during the production process, both of which are prohibited by Islam. Halal-certified cosmetics, on the other hand, are more carefully selected in their raw materials and do not contain alcohol, animal fats, or other ingredients, making them more in line with Islamic teachings. Clearly, with halal certification, COSMAX's Indonesian factory will expand its business beyond its existing Southeast Asian market and also cater to beauty needs in the Middle East and other Muslim countries.
Shen Yingjie, a representative from COSMAX (China) Cosmetics Co., Ltd., told reporters: "HALAL application is indeed quite complicated and takes at least two months. Certification also depends on the product. If you want to change the product formula, you need to reapply."
According to preliminary estimates by Techviano, the global halal cosmetics market was projected to reach US$23.4 billion (approximately RMB 151.8 billion) in 2015. Meanwhile, the global halal cosmetics market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of over 14%, meaning it is expected to exceed US$45 billion (approximately RMB 291.9 billion) by 2020.
