To assist the government’s efforts in providing halal products, the University of Indonesia (UI) has launched a Halal Center, which will become the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (LPH) from 2018.

Amarila Malik, director of the UI Halal Centre, stated that Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah and the University Management Malaysia will assist the centre in conducting research on whether products are halal.

“We still need three more certified auditors,” Amarila said at the launch of the UI Integrated Laboratory Research Center on Wednesday, adding that the center still needs more certified auditors to qualify as a halal product guarantor.

However, Amarila said that to become a qualified LPH certification auditor, people need to pass the certification test of the Halal Product Certification Center (BPJPH), and stressed that the long certification test will make it more difficult for her agency to recruit qualified certification auditors.
