KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia today announced the formation of a new International Halal Association, aimed at strengthening collaboration among halal certification bodies and authorities.

The secretariat of the International Halal Authority (IHAB) will be established in Malaysia and will be orchestrated by JAKIM Malaysia to accomplish five key tasks.

“IHAB will serve as a platform for coordination among halal authorities and certification bodies worldwide,” said Dr Sirajuddin bin Suhaimee, director of JAKIM’s Halal Centre, speaking at IHAB’s inaugural congress in Putrajaya, outside Kuala Lumpur.

In addition to working towards harmonisation, the association will also promote halal certification among its members based on mutual recognition arrangements. It will also encourage global collaboration among its members, provide training to certification bodies to foster their development, and help facilitate market access.
