Indonesia: Minister promotes international halal certification for SMEs
2025-05-15
ANTARA News - State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno is promoting international halal-certified food, especially food produced by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
“We encourage international halal food certification so that our food will be popular abroad,” the minister said here on Wednesday. International halal certification is important because the market is huge and it will boost small and medium-sized enterprises, she explained.
In addition, international halal standards can make the market operations of small and medium-sized enterprises more standardized and more competitive in the international market.
Many Indonesian food products are qualified to compete with foreign ones, and strengthening halal certification will ensure the quality of Indonesian products, the minister said.
The government will cooperate with the Food and Drug Administration, MUI and other relevant parties and will continue to follow up on international halal certification, she said in a statement.
“For example, in Saudi Arabia, the government will provide halal certification for Indonesian food products to enter the country’s market,” she said.
Indonesian food can compete with halal-certified food produced in non-Muslim countries and sold in Muslim countries, the minister confirmed.
Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world and we must produce and export more halal-certified food to other countries.
