As early as 2010, reports emerged about the halal market in Kazakhstan, indicating a fivefold increase in demand for halal food. Between 2005 and 2010, the number of companies producing products that meet halal standards increased significantly. These figures are based on data released by the Kazakhstan Halal Food Industry Association.
As a result, at that time, 500 companies in Kazakhstan's food, service, and medical sectors were operating in strict compliance with halal regulations. Market analysts predicted that this halal industry would grow rapidly and create positive economic resonance in the near future. It is reported that the global halal food trade has reached $1 trillion.
At the time, Kairat Satbald, Secretary General of the Narodn People's Democratic Party of Kazakhstan, stressed: "Currently, the country attaches great importance to the development of the halal industry. The Ministry of Industry and New Technologies has a dedicated department for the development of the halal industry. I believe that in the future this department can become a committee or even an agency to collect, analyze and provide recommendations on all issues related to the development of the halal industry."

Kazakhstan's ambassador to Malaysia, B. Atamkulov, said both industries have huge growth potential, given the country's majority Muslim population. Atamkulov also expressed his desire to see Malaysian products flow directly into Kazakhstan, rather than through third parties. "We currently import Malaysian-made products from other countries, such as rubber, palm oil, and furniture, and we want to receive Malaysian products directly," he said at a press conference.
Atamkulov also said that many Malaysian companies have begun negotiations to operate in Kazakhstan, especially in the oil and gas and pharmaceutical industries.
