Halal market industry chain and certification process

Halal food industry chain
Halal compliance in the food industry encompasses more than just manufacturing and slaughtering processes under Halal regulations. Key issues related to Halal integrity in food transportation and logistics include the contamination of Halal products with non-Halal ones. The Halal food certification process impacts much of the food and beverage industry's value chain. This is particularly important given that 91% of meat and live animals imported into OIC countries originate from non-OIC countries. With recent halal issues in China, pork DNA found in Halal burgers served in UK schools, and the horsemeat scandal, full traceability of the Halal supply chain is becoming increasingly problematic.
Certification and verification of halal products require a “farm to table” assessment guided by the core principles of the halal certification standards.
In the halal industry chain diagram below, you will find the processes of preparing, processing and evaluating products. It shows how halal products go from farm to consumer.
What is the process of Halal food certification?
The Halal certification process includes the following steps:
first step
Slaughterhouses and manufacturers seek HALAL certification.
Step 2
Certification bodies collect product samples from slaughterhouses and processing plants.
Step 3
Samples are submitted to an accredited testing laboratory.
Part 4
The testing laboratory submits the halal report to the certification body.
Step 5
The certification body verifies the report and investigates other aspects of production (i.e. farm conditions, slaughterhouse tools, methods and staff, hygiene within the premises, etc.)
Step 6
If all requirements and conditions are met, a HALAL certificate is issued.
Step 7
Certification bodies continuously monitor slaughterhouses and processing plants to ensure that they adhere to halal procedures throughout their operations.
