Dubai Municipality launches Halal food programme
2025-05-15
The program will help evaluate the efficiency of laboratories testing halal food and beverage products and will support the issuance of conformity assessment body certificates for halal products. The municipality's Director of Certification stated that the program adheres to the highest standards and uses reference samples tested by all participating laboratories. The efficiency program sets key requirements for laboratories and products to achieve international recognition. Omnia stated that 60 laboratories are expected to participate. She noted that the municipality has been implementing efficiency programs in various areas since the early 1990s, but with the need to professionalize the halal food efficiency program, the municipality established the necessary infrastructure and brought in technical experts to implement the program. The program has now received accreditation from the International Laboratory Accreditation Collaboration (ILAC).
The program supports Dubai's initiative to establish a Halal food pilot site as a first step towards becoming an Islamic capital economy. It also aligns with the country's approach and vision to establish an internationally recognized Halal food certification system.
