Starting from 2024, Indonesia will require these three categories of products to obtain Halal certification

Indonesia's Halal Products Assurance Agency (BPJPH) announced that it will impose sanctions on businesses whose products do not have halal certification. Three products will be mandatory in 2024: food and beverages; raw materials, food additives, and auxiliaries for food and beverages; and products from slaughtering and related services. "Therefore, before the halal certification obligation is fulfilled, we urge all businesses that work to immediately maintain the halal certification of their products," said Aqil Irham, head of BPJPH Kemenag, in a statement released this week (08/01/2023). Aqil stated that sanctions range from written warnings and administrative fines to license revocation. He believes the sanctions are in line with the provisions of PP No. 39 of 2021. "Therefore, before the halal certification obligation is fulfilled, we urge all businesses that work to immediately dispose of the halal certificates for their products." He added that the first halal certification obligation expires on October 17, 2024. According to Article 33 of 2014 and its derivative regulations, with the end of the first transition period, the above three groups of products must be Halal certified.
