China has announced plans to develop the halal industry to meet not only the needs of Chinese halal consumption but also the needs of halal industries in other countries.

"We have over 10,000 factories and restaurants whose food and beverages are halal certified," said Wang Shengjun, Chairman of the Ningxia Halal Food Committee. Ningxia, which officially became the Ningxia Autonomous Region in 1958, is well known for its Hui people, the dominant ethnic group among China's 35 ethnic groups found in the province. Wang stated that the province's halal industry boasts one of the most advanced technology laboratories in China, with 15 experts and 300 employees. Ningxia's halal food industry is currently valued at 50 million RMB.

Wang also mentioned that the local halal industry is collaborating with other halal industries abroad. He added that the local halal industry is collaborating with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and Malaysia on a mutually beneficial basis. He added that the Chinese halal industry is also planning to collaborate with its Indonesian counterparts.
