WASHINGTON - After three years of partisan bickering, the U.S. Senate, following closely on the House's heels, passed the landmark farm bill. The measure now moves to the President's signature. Among its many provisions, it calls on the Secretary of Agriculture to implement a program to increase purchases of kosher-certified and halal foods for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), a hunger reduction program. It also calls for the use of new labels to enable participating entities—such as food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens—to better identify kosher and halal foods.

Sochi, Russia – Rabbi Ari Edelkopf of the Sochi Jewish Community says Chabad in Russia is ready to serve the thousands of Jewish and non-Jewish visitors during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Since Sochi was awarded the Olympics in 2007, Rabbi Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia and President of the Union of Rabbis of the Soviet Union, has been working closely with government officials and event organizers to ensure Chabad's programs and offerings are seamlessly integrated into the visitor experience. Rabbi Edelkopf anticipates serving 7,000 kosher meals. In addition to the three-story Jewish Community Center in the city center, Edelkopf says two temporary Chabads will be strategically located throughout the area.
