One of the UK's oldest Halal poultry processors has added a Lancashire farm processing plant nearby.
80 percent of its poultry products come from local farms, but they want to increase local procurement further and plan to buy more farms to meet their standards. The company has invested heavily in its plant and now processes more than 450,000 birds every week.
Four years ago, Gafoor spent 4 million pounds on automated equipment and made further capital investment to make it compliant with UK/EU regulations. Now Gafoor is about to launch its own-brand chicken products.
Gafoor spokesman Dave Brockston said: 'Our strategy is to become one of the UK's leading suppliers of chicken products, including the Halal market and also the traditional poultry sector.'
