Hasan Sagkol, Secretary-General of Turkey's Halal Certification Body (HAK), said that bodies from several countries such as Spain, Kosovo, Russia and Croatia have applied to Turkey's Halal Certification Body (HAK) for certification, promotion and training.

In a statement to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Sagkol stressed that the body would hold a seminar with parties from the relevant industry to determine the principles and procedures for the regulation of Halal products and services. Sagkol said this is one of the important components of certification services. Sagkol noted: 'We will launch review activities this year, in line with the establishment of HAK's board of directors and the publication of subsidiary legislation on which a great deal of technical research has been completed.'

Sagkol said that last year the accreditation committee of the Turkish Standards Institution accepted the terms of reference among the accreditation bodies of OIC member states as the basis for a common assessment and mutual recognition system. The terms of reference should be approved by the SMIIC board of directors, scheduled to meet in Istanbul on 8-9 April.
