The Philippines has a new national Halal mark and hopes to export more Halal products.
The Philippines wants to increase its Halal food exports. According to Salaam Gateway, this is why the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry issued a national Halal mark. This means that all certification bodies and companies wishing to be certified in the Philippines must comply with the country's new Halal standards.
According to Salaam Gateway, the Philippines' Halal sales in 2017 were 5.52 billion pesos (US$106 million), accounting for 8.73% of the country's total exports of 63.23 billion pesos. Food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted for 90%, with the remainder including personal care products, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and detergents.
The Philippines' main Halal food export destinations are Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
