Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia today announced the establishment of a new international Halal association, aimed at strengthening collaboration among Halal certification bodies and Halal authorities.
The secretariat of the International Halal Authority Board (IHAB) will be located in Malaysia, planned by Malaysia's JAKIM to accomplish five key tasks.
'IHAB will serve as a platform for coordination among global Halal authorities and certification bodies,' Dr. Sirajuddin bin Suhaimee, Director of JAKIM's Halal Hub, said at IHAB's inaugural general assembly in Putrajaya on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
In addition to working on coordination, the association will also promote halal certification among members based on mutual recognition arrangements. It will also encourage global cooperation among members, provide training to certification bodies to promote their development, and help facilitate market access.
