Armenia: First Halal Certification Office Established in Armenia

The World Halal Organization's first certification office was established today in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It will participate in assessing whether Armenian-made food meets Iran's requirements, promote growth in demand for Armenian products, and increase customer traffic.

Suren Karayan, Armenia's Minister of Economic Development and Investments, noted that the Halal certificate will allow Armenian manufacturers to export their products not only to Iran but also to all 57 member states of the OIC.

'This is the result of our joint efforts. We have proactively given enterprises the opportunity to obtain Halal certification in Armenia, making this process more attractive and simpler for them,' Karayan told reporters at the opening ceremony.

He added that establishing an office in Yerevan is only the first step, and a consensus has now been reached that, if necessary, such offices will be opened around Armenia, first in the southern region bordering Iran.

In turn, office director Abdul Hussein Farhari said they have already been working in Armenia for two years and have provided Halal certificates to two slaughterhouses.

'The purpose of establishing a Halal office in Armenia is to meet the needs of Muslim tourists and help Armenian farmers export their products to Muslim countries,' he said.
