SMIIC and the Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association of Turkey (MUSIAD) signed two agreements on Thursday to improve the region's Halal standardization capacity and visibility.
The agreements were signed at MUSIAD's Istanbul headquarters, with the heads of both organizations, Abdurrahman Kaan and Ihsan Ovut, attending the signing event.
One agreement aims to organize joint activities to raise awareness of this field, while the other aims to create a monitoring and traceability system for Halal conformity assessment activities.
The agreements also aim to enable companies to adapt to Halal standards at every stage of manufacturing products and providing services.
Kaan said the cleanliness and dietary habits prescribed by Halal standards are important to human health.
He said: 'Unfortunately, awareness of Halal production and consumption is currently low.'
Speaking about the coronavirus outbreak that surfaced last December and has claimed more than 3,200 lives worldwide, he said some claim the disease originated from wild animals.
He added that the importance of Halal diet and Halal slaughter is now understood.
