JAKIM Halal certification continues to be highly sought after and recognized internationally.
JAKIM Halal Director Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee said demand for Malaysian Halal certification is very high and has grown by at least 5% compared with the same period last year.
This reflects the high global recognition of Malaysian Halal standards.
'In addition, we have also seen a continuous increase in demand from other Halal certification bodies for JAKIM Halal certification and recognition,' he mentioned at the 2018 MIAS panel session themed 'Securing Your Business in China.'
Sirajuddin said that, so far, JAKIM has confirmed 69 different Halal certification bodies in 42 countries, noting that applications for such certification continue to increase and await audit and compliance requirements.
He said one reason for the high demand for Malaysian Halal certification is that it is the recognition for entering the Middle Eastern market. Especially in the successful case of Australia, entry into these markets is allowed only with Malaysian Halal certification.
He said that, along with Middle Eastern countries, JAKIM Halal certification is also recognized by most Muslim countries as well as Japan, Europe and the United States.
JAKIM is the world's first Halal certification body. It added that, so far, the country has 15 Halal-related standards and 7 certification standards.
Sirajuddin said: 'The standards cover food and beverages (F&B), cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, logistics and consumer goods. By June this year, JAKIM expects to launch a new medical device standard and some fast-moving consumer goods standards.'
It noted that in the China market, China has a large quantity of food and beverage products that can meet global demand.
As more and more people realize that manufacturers need Halal certification, JAKIM has adopted an approach of benefiting from China's existing food industry to help other countries, especially Malaysia, obtain a supply of Halal-certified products from China.
He said China has high potential to become a strategic partner, helping Malaysia obtain a continuous food supply.
He added that over the past two years, JAKIM has taken various measures to raise awareness of the Halal concept in China, spreading information and developing understanding of the Halal industry through road shows in many provinces and establishing training centers.
