PETALING JAYA: The Halal Development Corporation (HDC) is in talks with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to form a joint venture and make a big push into the international Halal market.

HDC President Jamil Bidin revealed that Alibaba is keen on several industries in Malaysia, and he hopes the Halal industry will be one of them.

The country wants to enter the huge e-commerce industry, and Alibaba is the leader.

'The Halal industry does not want to fall behind in this,' he said today at a media briefing at the HDC Global Support Center.

Jamil hopes the cooperation between HDC and Alibaba will help the online sales of Halal products.

He said the cooperation between the two entities would be a win-win.

Alibaba has infrastructure and a presence in many countries, while the global Halal market is worth RM8.9 trillion.

I am sure many people will be keen to follow the trend.
