China has announced plans to develop its Halal industry, to meet not only China's own Halal consumption needs but also the Halal industry demand of other countries.
"We have more than 10,000 factories whose restaurant food and beverages carry Halal certificates," said Wang Shengjun, chairman of the Ningxia Halal Food Committee. Ningxia, which officially became the Ningxia Autonomous Region in 1958, is well known for the Hui people, the dominant ethnic group among the 35 of China's ethnic groups found in the province. Wang said the province's Halal industry has the most advanced technical laboratory in China, with 15 experts and 300 staff. Ningxia's Halal food industry was then worth as much as RMB 50 million.
Wang also said the local Halal industry cooperates with other Halal industries abroad. We have Halal-industry cooperation with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and Malaysia on a mutually beneficial basis, and China's Halal industry also plans to cooperate with Indonesian counterparts.
