JAKARTA – Indonesia's Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the domestic cosmetics industry ecosystem by actively participating in the 2026 Indonesia Cosmetic Ingredients (ICI) exhibition and conference. The event was held on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, organized by the Indonesian Cosmetics Companies Association (Perkosmi) under the theme “The Future of Innovative Cosmetic Ingredients: Technology, Safety and Sustainable Excellence.”
In his address, BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar praised the continued staging of ICI as a strategic forum. The forum aims to advance the upstream development of the cosmetics industry, particularly positioning ingredients as the foundation for producing safe, high-quality and competitive products. “The theme of ICI 2026 is highly aligned with global trends in the cosmetics industry, emphasizing the importance of technological innovation, safety assurance and sustainability. The synergy of these three aspects is key to achieving cosmetics that are safe, high-quality and beneficial to the public,” Taruna Ikrar said.
The BPOM Head further explained that the cosmetics industry has great potential to drive national economic growth, reflected in the strong demand for cosmetic products in both domestic and international markets. In Indonesia, the cosmetics market is projected to reach IDR 35.6 trillion in 2025, with a continued year-on-year positive growth trend.

“BPOM is committed to ensuring that all circulating cosmetic products meet safety, quality and efficacy requirements. At the same time, BPOM continues to enhance industry competitiveness through risk-based supervision, digitalization of licensing services, and mentoring for business operators, including micro, small and medium enterprises,” Taruna Ikrar added.
ICI 2026 featured a series of activities, including a cosmetic-ingredient exhibition, academic seminars, and innovation competitions under the names “Applied Research Innovation Competition” and “Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award.” These competitions gave universities and research institutions a platform to showcase application-based research innovations with the potential to be adopted by industry. BPOM also played an active role in these activities, including providing consultation booths for business operators, serving as a speaker in seminars and discussion sessions, and acting as a juror for the Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award.

Separately, Perkosmi Chairman Sancoyo Antarikso said that ICI 2026 is an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration among government, industry and academia in responding to the increasingly dynamic challenges of the cosmetics sector. “We greatly appreciate BPOM's long-standing responsiveness and support in helping the industry address various challenges. Through ICI 2026, we hope this collaboration can become even closer, to drive the innovation and self-reliant development of the domestic cosmetics industry,” he said.
Meanwhile, Innovation Zone Technical Director Kilala Tilaar explained that this year's competition judging focused on the novelty of active ingredients, sustainability, and relevance to global industry trends. “Today's cosmetic-ingredient innovation must be grounded in science and safety, and have a real impact on industry and society. We hope this competition can become a bridge connecting research results with industry needs,” she explained.
By holding ICI 2026, BPOM underscored the importance of collaboration among government, academia and business operators in building a strong and sustainable cosmetics industry ecosystem. Such collaboration is expected to produce cosmetic-ingredient innovations that not only follow trends but are also based on scientific evidence and compliant with regulatory standards.
“Collaboration among academia, the business community and government must be continuously strengthened, so that innovation can add value to the national economy and make Indonesian cosmetic products stand out in the global market,” the BPOM Head concluded.
