JAKARTA – At Future Beauty Talk 2026, held by the Martha Tilaar Group on Thursday, 30 April 2026, at the Screen X CGV cinema in Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, BPOM pushed to strengthen innovation and sustainability in the domestic cosmetics industry. The event served as a space for cross-sector collaboration to jointly explore the trends, technologies and future direction of the beauty industry.
Also attending were Marlyn Malsarah, a member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives; Kilala Tilaar, CEO of the Martha Tilaar Group; Eti Setiawati, President of PT Cedefindo; and Sancoyo Antarikso, Chairman of the Indonesian Cosmetics Companies Association (Perkosmi).
Under the theme “Beauty Reimagined: Biotechnology, Wellness and the Next Cosmetic Frontier,” the event examined the transformation of the global beauty industry, which increasingly emphasizes scientific approaches, wellness concepts and sustainability. In his address, BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar said that the beauty industry is no longer focused on aesthetics alone, but has developed into an ecosystem integrating science, holistic health and environmental responsibility.

“The beauty industry is now evolving, integrating science, holistic health and environmental responsibility,” Taruna Ikrar said.
According to BPOM data, the domestic cosmetics industry showed significant growth between 2021 and 2025, expanding by 64%, while the number of cosmetics micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) grew by 49%. Taruna stressed that this growth must be balanced with compliance in safety, efficacy and quality, in order to protect the public and maintain market confidence.
In addition, the government continues to advance the self-reliant development of the domestic cosmetics industry by strengthening research and development of local ingredients based on Indonesia's highly competitive biodiversity. In this regard, BPOM's role is to ensure strong regulation while supporting innovation through adaptive, collaborative and risk-based supervision. This includes providing accelerated licensing services and mentoring for operators, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM).

Taruna Ikrar further emphasized that, supported by rich biodiversity, traditional knowledge and a large domestic market, Indonesia has enormous potential to become a global player in the beauty and wellness industry. “Indonesia has enormous potential to become a major player in the global beauty and wellness industry,” he added.
Echoing the BPOM Head, Martha Tilaar Group CEO Kilala Tilaar also expressed her hopes and encouragement for Indonesian beauty-industry practitioners to keep innovating and adapting to change. “In the future, this industry is not only about the products themselves, but about science, sustainability, and how to understand consumer needs more holistically,” she said.
Through this event, BPOM promoted stronger cross-sector collaboration among government, industry, academia and operators, in order to accelerate innovation and enhance the competitiveness of the domestic cosmetics industry. Future Beauty Talk 2026 is expected to become a catalyst for the development of local cosmetics — from research and development to production — based on Indonesia's natural wisdom, and to drive sustainable collaboration toward building a safe, high-quality and globally competitive domestic cosmetics industry.
