Introduction: Muhammad Aqil Irham, head of Indonesia''s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jakarta, stated that by 2024, three groups of products would be required to obtain Halal certification in Indonesia.

Case Study
Hubei Bafeng Pharmaceutical & Chemical Co., Ltd. was established in April 1997. In August 2022 it formed a strategic partnership with Grand Pharmaceutical (China) Co., Ltd., becoming one of the key member enterprises of Grand Group''s biotechnology segment. Bafeng is mainly engaged in the R&D, production and sales of amino acid raw materials and preparations, with compound amino acid oral solution and glutamine-alanine-glycine tablets as exclusive preparation products. It has an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons of amino acid raw materials, 20 million vials of amino acid oral liquid, and 750 million amino acid preparations (tablets, granules, sachets). Its raw material products are exported to more than 20 countries and regions, making it one of China''s largest domestic and industrial bases for medical amino acids.
This time, with SINOQUAL''s assistance, Bafeng certified more than ten amino acid raw material products, including glycine, L-alanine, L-glutamic acid, L-isoleucine, and L-leucine. Building on its exports to Australia, the Americas, Europe, and Asian markets such as Korea and Japan, its overseas footprint now extends further to the Halal markets represented by Indonesia and to Southeast Asia.
Indonesia is the world''s largest Halal market, especially in the food, tourism, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical sectors. To accelerate its goal of becoming the world''s leading Halal food producer by 2024, Indonesia has taken numerous measures in recent years, with the government setting Halal certification phases by product type (see chart below). Therefore, enterprises planning to enter the Indonesian market must plan ahead and obtain official Indonesian BPJPH Halal certification for their export products early in order to succeed.
