The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has registered with ehalal.com, the e-commerce portal of Malaysia's halal trade ministry, to support Indonesian halal products.
The portal is not a store selling products online, but serves as an online catalog listing halal products available for sale. The portal guides buyers to verify suppliers or their e-commerce partners.
'Halal products account for 11% of the world's total products, of which 67% are food and beverages and 22% pharmaceutical and beauty products,' Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice Chairman Ilham Habibie said on Monday.
According to Dato' Seri Jamil Bidin, CEO of the Halal Industry Development Corporation, ehalal.com is also cooperating with the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) and uploading a database of MUI-halal-certified products.
'Users can access information on MUI-halal-certified products through MUI's interface,' he said.
In addition to products from Indonesia and Malaysia, products from India can also be found through ehalal.com. Jamil said Malaysia's trade ministry plans to hold trade exhibitions in Thailand and Australia, and in Japan and Europe in August and September, which will attract more partners.
