Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) said it will sanction operators whose products do not have Halal certification. Three types of products are mandatory in 2024: food and beverages; raw materials, food additives and supplementary materials for food and beverages; and slaughter and related services products. 'Therefore, before the Halal certificate obligation is enforced, we urge all who work hard to immediately maintain the Halal certificate for their products,' said Aqil Irham, head of BPJPH Kemenag, in his statement on (08/01/2023). Aqil said the sanctions range from written warnings and administrative fines to revocation of licenses. He believes this sanction conforms to the provisions within Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021 (PP). 'Therefore, before the Halal certificate obligation is enforced, we urge all who work hard to immediately handle their products holding a Halal certificate.' He added that the first phase of the Halal certificate obligation will expire on October 17, 2024. According to Article 33 of 2014 and its derivative regulations, with the end of the first transition period, the above three groups of products must obtain Halal certification.
