BPJPH Reiterates: Cosmetics Must Obtain Halal Certification Before October 2026

Afriansyah Noor, Deputy Head of Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), stressed that cosmetics must obtain halal certification after October 17, 2026. This was expressed by Afriansyah Noor at the 14th Cosmetic Ingredients Exhibition and Seminar at the Jakarta International Expo in North Jakarta. “Under Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024, regarding the implementation of the halal product assurance sector after October 17, 2026, a number of products must obtain halal certification, covering drugs, cosmetics, chemical products, genetically modified products and consumer goods.” “Cosmetics are one of the products needed by the Indonesian people, especially Muslims, so they need to be maintained by meeting halal product assurance standards. Moreover, in the current cosmetics market share, especially among Muslim women, when buying cosmetics they undoubtedly give priority to using the halal label,” he added. In addition, Afriansyah said that although the halal certification obligation will begin in October 2026, many cosmetics have already implemented halal certification. Halal cosmetics also receive high public attention, including through social media. Tjuk Zamzami Abidin, Deputy for the Development and Supervision of Halal Product Assurance, added that BPJPH continues to carry out socialization and education on halal certification for business players, including cosmetics manufacturers. It is hoped that the socialization and education related to the halal certification obligation will raise awareness and transparency in the cosmetics industry and promote consumer trust among both Muslims and non-Muslims.
