BPJPH Convenes China's Overseas Certification Bodies to Support the 2026 Mandatory Halal Certification Rollout

On April 28, 2026, Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) held a courtesy meeting and dedicated seminar with Chinese halal certification bodies at its office building. The event invited several China-based overseas halal cooperation bodies to attend, aiming to strengthen the coordination and unified mutual recognition of halal standards between the two countries, and to prepare for the full rollout of Indonesia's mandatory halal certification law in October 2026.

BPJPH head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said about 18 China-based overseas halal certification cooperation bodies were convened, to exchange views on implementing Indonesia's current halal regulations in light of China's existing certification practices, and to promote rule adaptation and standard alignment between the two sides.

At the meeting in Jakarta that day, Ahmad Haikal Hasan said: "Grounded in Indonesia's local development vision, this will achieve mutual benefit and win-win results for both sides, help upgrade the quality of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and make export trade to China smoother, more compliant and more standardized."

Haikal Hasan added that this upgraded cooperation also covers every link of the whole-chain halal ecosystem, spanning the entire process from product inspection, inventory management and packaging to logistics and distribution. This is a key measure to safeguard the quality of halal products along the whole chain and achieve compliance from upstream raw materials to downstream circulation.

He went on: "That is why I specially convened all the China-based overseas halal cooperation bodies. Let us work together to build a better bilateral economic and trade landscape."

Haikal noted that China was the first country invited to this dedicated forum. On the one hand, China has the largest number of halal cooperation bodies serving Indonesia and a huge volume of commodity trade exported to Indonesia; on the other, as of 2026 China's halal-industry capacity keeps rising, and it is already one of the benchmark countries in global halal-industry development.

He further emphasized: "Although China's population is predominantly non-Muslim, society as a whole has a very high level of awareness of and attention to halal compliance requirements, which is well worth referencing and learning from as mature implementation-management experience."

Next, BPJPH plans to hold similar meetings with halal bodies in Europe and other regions. This measure aims to promote the development of the halal industry and make it one of the core pillar industries helping Indonesia achieve its national economic-development goals.

Through this forum, BPJPH hopes to further deepen international cooperation in the field of global halal product assurance and help the global halal industry achieve sustainable, healthy development.
